Soil Notes

Observations from the field

Soil Notes is where we share what we’re seeing, learning, and thinking about soil health in real conditions. These short reflections grow out of fieldwork, seasonal shifts, and ongoing observation—not trends or quick fixes.

They’re meant to be informative, practical, and grounded in the realities of managing soil over time.

What you’ll find here

Each Soil Note reflects a moment in time—a question we’re hearing often, a pattern we’re noticing in the field, or a reminder about how living soil systems respond to change.

Topics may include:

  • Seasonal soil conditions

  • Plant stress and recovery

  • Compaction and disturbance

  • Water movement and soil structure

  • What healthy soil actually looks like in practice

These notes are not prescriptive instructions. They’re shared to build understanding and encourage curiosity about what’s happening beneath the surface.

A living archive

We keep a rolling archive of recent Soil Notes so readers can explore past observations and themes. Over time, older entries are retired to keep this space focused and relevant.

Currently, we maintain approximately one year of notes in the archive.
