Boy, it’s wet outside. I’m tired of the rain, but I know that every Texan will shush me down if I utter this out loud, as the alternative is unquestionably worse. As I look at the forecast, I see more rain in our future, so we will have to roll with what the sky provides. A question we occasionally hear from new clients is why our treatment programs don't look like traditional fertilizer schedules. The short answer is that we're focused on feeding the soil system, not simply pushing top growth. That doesn't mean nutrients aren't important. In fact, our current and upcoming applications will include nitrogen as part of the recipe. The difference is that we're trying to provide what the soil and plants need in the context of the season, while supporting the biology that helps cycle and retain those nutrients over time. A healthy soil system functions differently than a system that depends on repeated applications of synthetic fertilizers. When soil biology is active and diverse, nutrients are cycled more efficiently, water is held more effectively, and plants tend to become more resilient to environmental stress. One thing we'd encourage our clients to do is let us know if another company is also applying fertilizers or other soil products to the same property. More is not always better. Just as a recipe can be improved by adding the right ingredient at the right time, it can also be thrown out of whack when there are too many cooks in the kitchen. Whether we're working with a residential lawn, a ranch pasture, a public green space, or a municipal property, the goal remains the same: build healthier soil that supports healthier plants. The recent rains are helping us do this in most ways, and I’d wager things will keep getting better. A little sun would be nice, though. Hope to see you outside, Clay P.S.
