Winter was warmer than normal, soils never fully went dormant, and drought conditions are still lingering across much of the region. Even though last weekend brought some welcome rain, longer-term moisture levels remain uneven across many properties. With La Niña patterns likely sticking around, we may continue to see fewer soaking rains and more variability in moisture as spring unfolds. Warm days encourage plants to start growing above ground, but cooler soils mean roots and soil biology are still catching up. This is where patience matters. At Deep Roots TX, March is about guiding the transition from winter rest into spring activity without pushing landscapes faster than the soil can support. When growth outpaces soil health, plants become more vulnerable to stress, pests, and disease later in the season. March isn’t about racing toward spring. It’s about preparing the soil to support healthy growth in the months ahead. Strong roots and stable soil structure now lead to better water use, healthier plants, and fewer problems when summer heat arrives.
