Howdy Subscriber First Name, The mornings have finally cooled a bit, though the afternoons still hang on to summer. Our major challenge at the moment is how to handle the drought (still) and lingering heat we've been dealt. Yes, we were blasted with a downpour, and that's great. However, we are still behind in rainfall. Make sure you're irrigating enough, but not constantly—you're not growing a marsh. Honestly, over-irrigating is the #1 issue on nearly every landscape we come across and overly dry is much less common.
On the brighter side, our liquid compost is as rich as ever, and the cooler nights help the biology thrive. We can overcome the disadvantages of the season with the help of our biological allies and ol’ reliable carbon and organic matter. Our treatments this fall will focus on the carbon and humates to keep things refreshed and breathing, the minerals for healthy roots, and the biology to fight the bad and help the good.
Looking ahead, expect leaf drop to start accelerating in the next few weeks. Leaves aren’t trash, they’re food for our biological allies. Let the leaves feed your soil instead of bagging them to the curb, if possible. Hope to see you outside, Clay
